A Singular Focus
Twelve years ago I took a leap of faith and left a career in higher education human resources to join TIAA-CREF in its (then new) College Savings (529 plans) business. As I look back, I know I made the right decision. I have learned a tremendous amount, have been given challenging assignments and get to work with individuals that are bright, dedicated, ethical and collegial.  I have had a number of interesting and challenging assignments in areas such as relationship management, marketing, product development and management, and strategy.   TIAA-CREF is extremely mission-focused, which makes it very clear what path we take when making business decisions. Given our non-profit heritage, we don’t have to be concerned about balancing the needs of shareholders versus our customers. Our focus is solely on meeting the needs of those we serve — our customers and participants.
