A Thank You to Our Nation’s Veterans and to Those Who Serve Today
By Roger Ferguson, President and CEO, TIAA-CREF

This Veterans Day, we pause to consider the sacrifice that millions of our nation’s heroes have made to protect our way of life and the freedoms that we Americans hold dear. The veterans who have served this nation throughout its history deserve our deepest gratitude for their service.
We owe a special thanks to the men and women who are serving today. Many have had multiple tours in hostile environments away from their loved ones. Many have lost family and dear friends, and many have paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our nation. We mark their service on this Veterans Day with remembrance, gratitude, and pride.
Since its founding in 1918, the same year that the fighting ceased in World War I, TIAA-CREF has been fortunate to count many veterans among its employees, participants, and board members. That’s not surprising given our company’s values and our history of serving the people and institutions that serve others. Indeed, many of our clients – people working now and in years past on campuses, in hospitals, research facilities, and other institutions – have also proudly served in our nation’s military. To all of those who have served bravely over the years and to those who currently serve, we at TIAA-CREF thank you for your extraordinary commitment, your unwavering dedication and the sacrifices you have made.
