TIAA-CREF Names Skip Spriggs as Head of Human Resources

NEW YORK, Aug. 8, 2012 – TIAA-CREF, a leading financial services provider, today announced the appointment of Otha T. “Skip” Spriggs III as executive vice president, chief human resources officer. Spriggs will report to TIAA-CREF Chief Executive Officer Roger W. Ferguson Jr. and serve on the company’s executive management team. He starts his new role on September 10, 2012.

Spriggs joins TIAA-CREF with more than 25 years of experience, most recently serving as senior vice president of human resources at Boston Scientific, where he oversaw recruiting, compensation, benefits, policies, training and leadership development for more than 25,000 employees worldwide.

Prior to joining Boston Scientific, Spriggs held leadership roles at The Home Depot, Levi Strauss & Co., UPS and Catalent Pharma Solutions, Inc. In addition, Spriggs was senior vice president of human resources at Cigna Corporation, where he also served as the company’s chief diversity officer and president of the Cigna Foundation.

Spriggs has served on the boards of numerous community and charitable organizations. He is currently a member of the College of Business Administration board for Savannah State University and the HR advisory board for University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business. He also has served as chairman of the board for the Urban League of Philadelphia.

Spriggs holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Towson State University. He will be based in North Carolina and work from TIAA-CREF’s Charlotte campus.
