Connie K. Weaver will join TIAA-CREF next month as executive vice president, chief marketing and communications officer. She will oversee the company’s marketing, brand management, advertising, market research and analytics, corporate communications, and digital strategy functions.

Weaver joins TIAA-CREF from The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. where she was senior vice president in charge of marketing and communications. Previously, she was executive vice president and chief marketing officer at BearingPoint. She ended a ten-year career at AT&T in a similar post, and has also held senior positions in investor relations, communications, marketing and strategy with Microsoft, MCI Communications and McGraw-Hill.

“We are fortunate to have Connie Weaver join TIAA-CREF as we look to broaden our capabilities and help meet the financial needs of a growing group of people,” said CEO Roger W. Ferguson, Jr. “Connie brings to TIAA-CREF a track record excelling at some of the leading companies in their industries. She will be instrumental in our work to build awareness for our services and unlock the potential of our offer.”

Weaver will succeed Steve Goldstein, executive vice president for public affairs and marketing, when he steps down on June 30. After seven years at TIAA-CREF, Goldstein plans to advise companies on how to take better advantage of country music to build their brands. “I want to gratefully acknowledge Steve Goldstein for his significant contributions, including moving our company to industry leadership in social media, and for the guidance he provided during the search for his successor,” Mr. Ferguson added.

Weaver, who will be based at TIAA-CREF’s New York City headquarters, is eager to begin a new chapter in her career.

“TIAA-CREF has a compelling story and a brand that embodies trust, confidence, and financial strength,” she said. “I am proud to join TIAA-CREF and look forward to building upon all that it offers to clients.”

Weaver serves on the boards of The University of Connecticut Foundation, the Connecticut Science Center, and The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. BtoB Magazine has listed her three times on its “Who’s Who” and “Top Marketer” lists. She received the Communicator of the Year award from the Business Marketing Association for her work at AT&T, and has earned recognition for her investor relations work at AT&T, Microsoft and MCI.

Weaver holds a B.S. from the University of Maryland and has completed post-graduate financial management, marketing and strategic planning courses at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, and Imede (Switzerland), as well as an executive program in finance from Stanford University.
