How can I establish a 529 plan? TIAA-CREF manages ten state 529 plans. Enroll in one of these plans from the Education Savings section by clicking your choice of College 529 Savings Plans links. You will have the option to print and send in your application or submit the application online.

You must contact your plan sponsor directly or log into your account on your plan sponsor’s 529 website. Plan sponsors’ websites are accessible from our Education Savings section by clicking the 529 Plans link and selecting your state’s plan from the drop-down menu.

I am retired and I would like to establish a 529 College Savings Plan, managed by TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc. (TFI). Is there an easy way to withdraw or transfer money from my TIAA-CREF IRA to establish a 529 plan? You cannot transfer money directly from a TIAA-CREF IRA to a TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc. (TFI)-managed 529 plan. You must first request a distribution from your IRA, which is taxable, and then forward the funds to your 529 account.
